Shalom in the Promised Land




One of the many traits I love about Abram is that he does not conquer any one. He gets along with the folks who live in the land he was called to.

The first encounter in Canaan we read about is by the "Great tree of Moreh in Schechem" [12:6]. Here the Lord Yahway is "seen" [12:7] by Abram. Abram hears: "to your seed I will give this land" [12:7].

The promise of land to his seed does not seem to mean that his seed will conquer anyone. We are clearly told "The Canaanites were then in the land [12:6].

Perhaps the divine words Abram hears are a secret desire to conquer. But Abram never acts on any desire to conquer. The only land Abram ever gets he buys to bury Sarah
